OFAH Part 2 - More bad news for members

You are not allowed to see the insurance policy that you're paying for!!

Part Two of the OFAH insurance scheme. This is the response you'll get if you ask the OFAH for a copy of the insurance policy you paid for.

I'll condense it. You don't get to see it! You're not allowed! You get a summary. If you need a full copy, you better have a lawyer!

Any insurance policy I've ever had was given to me in full, whether it was for my house, car or life. This is not only unacceptable but makes me think that it may be illegal!

What exactly is OFAH doing with the money? Why can't you get a copy of the policy? Just another reason why any activities, letters or contracts that you enter into with the OFAH should be checked re-checked and checked again. The guys in Peterborough want your money!

NOTE: All capitalized words and bracketed words below are mine, added for clarity. - Steve

DEAR SIR,

The policy is a contract between the GNWA (Great North Wildlife Affiliates Ontario) and the insuring company.

Due to privacy issues, NO ONE has the authority to allow or authorize the release of a copy of the policy except the GNWA. This would mean that all participating MEMBERS (you), clubs and the appointed Insurance Committee members would be required to vote. There would have to be a majority of the participating members agreeing to allow any one H.O. (Home Owner?) to release a copy of the policy.

Now, having stated that, there is no problem providing this individual with a copy of the Summary of Insurance and the Description of Operations.

From these two documents any individual can ask questions the he/she feels may pertain to his/her activities a/o coverage's. His / her lawyer can certainly contact you in writing and express any concerns and / or questions that he / she may have and as long as it does not infringe on any privacy issues I am sure that between you, me & the underwriter we will be able to answer any specific concerns quickly, correctly & efficiently.

Again to emphasize, any coverage inquiries must be in writing, preferably to your office by email so that we may document & respond accordingly.

Besides the Privacy issues and just the logistics of having everyone vote, over 150,000 individuals and probably around 864 Branches, if the Program were to start providing copies to every individual a/o branches, the cost would certainly out weigh any benefits. Also, as previously discussed we would end up having individuals not familiar with the legal a/o insurance terminology attempting to interpret the wordings and creating a very time consuming situation for all of us.

So, in closing, I do not think he / she is legally entitled to a copy unless it is approved by all the members & branches of the GNWA.

If your lawyer has any questions on the summary of our insurance, please let me know.
