OFAH Insurance is 2nd Rate!

It's bad enough that you weren't given a choice to join.
Now you pay more for less coverage!

Both the NFA - National Firearms Association &
CSSA - Canadian Sport Shooting Association
insurance packages are much, much better than what is offered by the OFAH. (see below)

Tell your club you want better coverage for less money! Dump the OFAH and save!

This is about outdoor insurance. It is about protection in case you have an accident while hunting, shooting, fishing or participating in a sanctioned club activity. It is about the various coverage offered and what is the better value. Whether you are an ordinary club member or on an executive board, read and heed!
Let me state at the outset that I am not an NFA member, nor do I sell insurance. I found out quite by accident about the difference in value of the OFAH insurance versus the NFA or CSSA insurance policies. NFA or CSSA insurance is much better!

COMPARED TO THE OTHERS, OFAH INSURANCE IS 2nd RATE!!

Is your club affiliated with the OFAH? It's time to dump them. Honestly, they aren't doing you any favours. If your local club has partnered with them for the outdoor insurance they offer, you're being taken for a ride. Your club adds $30 to $40 to your annual dues to make up for this insurance. You are paying 300% or more for significantly less coverage, when compared to NFA or CSSA insurance.

The NFA and CSSA offer far better coverage for less cost. Get after your club executive and save!

For detailed information about these policies, contact either the NFA at www.nfa.org or the OFAH- http://www.ofah.org/Membership/index.cfm?ID=3&B=2

You will be surprised by what each offers.

The OFAH charges more than anyone else and their coverage is classed as secondary. What that means is that OFAH insurance only kicks in AFTER your primary home insurance stops paying. You do have a main (primary) home insurance policy don't you? Your home insurance DOES cover outdoors activitiess doesn't it? You do know that the OFAH insurance is not really primary insurance don't you? Confused? Unsure? Do yourself a HUGE favour. Talk to your insurance company and get clarification about what you're covered for, who pays out what, and when!!

On the other hand, NFA and CSSA plans are primary types. They will pay immediately and do not ask if there is another policy that will cover a claim first.

WHAT DO THESE COMPANIES COVER?

1. Public Liability Coverage

NFA: The policy covers the individual or the club for $5,000,000.00 in liability coverage. This is $5,000,000.00 in Liability Insurance for any claims. It is primary insurance.

OFAH: Only covers individual members for $3,000,000. It is secondary insurance. IMPORTANT NOTE!!! Club or OFAH activities require additional insurance. (Offered, I suspect, for an additional charge.)

CLUB EXECUTIVE MEMBERS please take note, your club's activities are NOT covered by the OFAH insurance! The following is taken directly from the OFAH site. It is disturbing. Your club MUST BUY optional insurance.

From the OFAH site: 24 March, 2008

QUOTE
Optional Coverages Available:

1. Club Comprehensive General Liability for club and O.F.A.H. related activities ($3,000,000 limit).
2. Range Liability covering all shooting range members ($2,000,000 limit).

Note: For all Club liability insurance questions, please contact the O.F.A.H. Club Services representative at head office.

2. Individual Coverage

NFA: Each individual or each individual member of each covered club, is covered for:

* All legal hunting activities
* All legal bowhunting activities
* All legal range shooting activities
* All legal range archery activities
* All legal fishing activities

Anywhere in Canada or the continental United States. That's pretty broad!

OFAH: Only covers members in Canada and not all activities are covered!! You had better check to make sure that your outdoor activity is on their approved list! If not, you could be out of luck.

3. General Liability

NFA: Commercial general liability coverage is $5,000,000 with a $500 deductible for situations involving bodily injury, property damage and legal expenses at all demonstration, practice, training and/or competition shooting events, and or other firearms activity sponsored by the club.

OFAH: General liability for club and OFAH related activities is optional. (It doesn't say, but I suspect it would be an extra charge.) You better check to see what exactly it is that they cover BEFORE you start!!

RANGE DIRECTORS PLEASE NOTE!!! Range Liability covering all shooting range members is optional coverage. (Again, it doesn't say, but I suspect it would be an extra charge.)

4. Out of pocket costs to individuals - YOU!

NFA: To be covered by NFA insurance, your club is accessed $3 per member (a $45 minimum or the equivalent of 15 people), plus $7.95 per person (no minimum) for the insurance itself. The total cost is only $10.95 per person. The $10.95 is actually charged to you versus $30 or more charged by other organizations. Also, PLEASE NOTE - there is no 80 % or 100% participation requirement that the OFAH assesses. Participation in NFA insurance is completely voluntary!

OFAH: $30+ dollars per person - but ONLY if 100% of your club participates! (I'm not sure of the cost if the number of participants is only 80%. It will be even higher than $30 however.)

OFAH insurance may sound okay, but it is vitally important that you check into it before placing your trust in them. There are several potential problems that could cost you or your family big money, in the event of an accident! Contact your insurance agent NOW!
